'… if a man or woman has received
a gift from our Lord, such as devotion
in prayer or in passion of Christ, or any
other… let him not leave it too soon
for anything else unless he truly feels
a better one. …then… that is the time
for him to follow it and get it.'
Walter Hilton, The Scale of Perfection
I had to cross the street this morning
to feel the warmth on my back—
the sun is further north now.
My shadow stretched ahead of me
looking like a man on stilts.
Just yesterday I thought
already ten years past since Spain?
and six years since our granddaughter born?
The sun shall rule the day as always.
This morning I had to cross the street to feel it.
Its nice reading, Its nice hearing, But its like feeding. Thanks a lot poet
you're welcome. and thanks for taking the time not only to comment but comment cleverly. appreciatively, glen
Do you know that old time song- - Me and My Shadow? That was probably what gave a great deal of imagination to my lonely play time as a child. I was never alone with that shadow accompanying me - -he was my dog, he was my pony, he was my brave friend who could leap over anything and grow taller than any threat. This poem of course goes farther than the shadow friendships of children. Blessings!
i do know the song, susan, and it's interesting to me to hear how you related to your shadow. in general i like dawn and sunset when the light is more interesting and shadows are long. (related, you might like my poem just 15th street.) thank you, susan, for reading and commenting and sharing a bit about yourself. blessings back! -glen
Interesting one, Glen. Do you feel the need for a change? What is the significance of Spain? I can't believe it's almost ten years since we moved to C.R.
need change in my personal spiritual practice? - not now. the mention of spain and my granddaughter's birth are references to time passing. the hilton quote came to mind as a spiritual application of the physical one of seeking the sun for warmth they way we seek to feel God near. but wow! i just posted this, and you were right on it! blessings! -glen

My shadow stretched ahead of me looking like a man on stilts....only a poet can keenly observe such phenomena. I liked this poem.
Thanks, Dillip. And having rediscovered this poem with your comment, I like it too. -Glen
