Cross Number Twenty Seven Poem by Nithin Jacob

Cross Number Twenty Seven

Where did you start your work?
Why did you run to me?
Did you see me painting sky blue?
Have you smelled the rose in me?
And now did you find it burned?
Oh, all the way, have you found me burned?
Why did you fade away? Why?
I want to tell you, oh but I can’t?
Because I love you… love all the way
I have often told you stories about a tavern
Where an old man used to come and laugh
And there his true love sits him down, down
Gets him drink, and gets him high
She is pretty, ask him to forget her
Fare him well, for she must leave,
Do not let this parting grieve, she says
What shall I say my mate who asked for help?
What am I to do since faith is dead?
Oh both of us promised to each other,
To be as true as I would be
You smiled and you spoke, oh I believed
People greedy, they are needy
Where did they come from?
Why did the wind blow them in?
Met you in cross number 27
Why would I ever go back there?
Where love was in gain and I was in pain
Goodbye blue sky, goodbye cross # 27
