Couples In The Rain

Sorry, folks, there's been a hoax,
That's right ma'am, it's all a scam,
You see, there's been this huge mistake,
Your marriage license is a fake...
A promise rendered, a fealty pledged
it's not as legal as alleged.
The Mayor has over-stepped his bounds,
so please, no tux and wedding gowns..
the courts have gotten paranoid
and declared your vows are null and void.
Cancel the enlightened interlude.
Back in the closet...sorry, dude!
We hope this hasn't wrecked your life,
and that of your husband, or your wife,
but you threaten traditions we all hold dear,
you've sparked a tidal wave of fear.
There will be no sympathy for you here.
Besides, you're queer,
in an election year

Poet's Notes about The Poem

The Mayor of San Francisco held that same-sex couples could marry, and dozens of them, some of whom had spent decades together, lined up in a cold rain to get a marriage license. Later, Proposition negated the marriages. Update: The proposition was declared unconstitutional and gay marriage is now legal in California. Sanity at last! !

I invite you to read my poem All Love Is Love, written directly to speak to the topic. Haven't people seeking gay rights already had their share of enough rain upon them? Just my opinion....but who to truly cast judgement. By the way...I was Best Man, (although I am a woman....sometimes the best man for the job...) at my brother's wedding to his lifelong partner...A beautiful honor and a relationship that has outlasted many of those between other couples. Your poem very topical and I applaud it! PEACE (Report) Reply

Brisk and meaningful, Is it political correctness, or, incorrectness? Love is Love whatever form it takes, it's a power for good, unlike most poiticians! (Report) Reply
