Country Churches Poem by Marilyn Lott

Country Churches

Worshiping in Country Churches
Are different it seems to me
Folks so friendly toward one another
In a small and warm community

And, I don’t know, seems like God
Has an easier time listening
Folks slow down just a bit
Take a little time for reminiscing

They aren’t so all-fired busy
Their schedules aren’t as cluttered
And when they come together
Their prayers are softly muttered

Yes, God is everywhere
And you don’t need church to pray
But a small Country Church
Seems like such a gentle way

And don’t you enjoy their appearance?
And their rustic sense of style?
I love to stop and talk to God
In a Country Church for a little while

The stillness of a country moment
A sermon in the morning hush
Folks gather together on Sunday
There doesn’t seem to be such a rush

So if you’re from a big city
Or just doing a religious search
Drive out into the country
And discover a Country Church!
