Corruption They Say Is Evil

CORRUPTION, THEY SAY, IS EVIL
By By: Jiban Goswami

Corruption they say is evil
But dumb me, I ask "Why pray? "
Half those big shots in bureaucracy,
Same with the big names in Industry and Trade
And those who dabble in politics and make opinions sway
Have a look at their Dads' profiles
Nearly half of them lived beyond their means,
built palatial houses and bought fabulous plots
Sent their sons and daughters to the schooling's hottest spots
And some even were sent abroad.
So, why is corruption bad?
The corrupts' kids came back with bulging brains
and entered services with immaculate ease
the honest guys next door
could do nothing of the sort
their kids had to fight all sorts of odds
to compete on equal terms
with sons of corrupt dads
And those sons and daughters thanks to their schooling, became an educated lot
Intelligent, cultured, well groomed, wise in the ways of the world
All they had to do was fill up the vacant slots they were a highly qualified lot
Appeared for plum services and took the coveted spots
But are they not all fruits of corruption, nearly half of these brothers?
So how is corruption bad?
They need not be corrupt themselves, these sons and daughters
They can teach morals and be holier than thou
Their dads had left them enough for this life and beyond
To perpetuate benefits of good life for generations that followed
Sending them to the best of schools that money can buy
That the honest guy ‘s son can only dream on the sly
Security of wealth is warm in their belly
Risk taking is easy there's enough in the kitty
Life got made before they were even born
Thanks to their dads' money- making form
Their fathers were crooks so what
Their descendants are really smart
Because corruption ensured them an excellent head- start
But all had one thing in common apart from a corrupt father
They all had a gem of a mother, cultured and pious
Who shielded them from their fathers' viceful bias
And steeped them in values that stood them well
As they set forth on the life's trail.
And those who didn't have such a mother, they became worse than their fathers
They hired goons and became political dadas.
But again, how is corruption bad?
Don't talk of ethics they are man made and anyway dead
And can be tweaked to suit the issue at hand.
If one can make one's progeny shine
Who may leave something on the sands of time
How do the means matter?
So the moral is be corrupt but marry someone with taste
She will make your sons and daughters do the rest.
she will convert the ill gotten wealth to
to perpetuate a breed of society's thinkers and stalwarts
So how's corruption bad?
Even Gods are silent, they too have acquiesced.
So who says corruption is bad?
