Confessions of a soldier 2

I fight for my country
I fight for fame
I fight for freedom
for a brighter day

So tough i appear
my best friend does say
So strong i am
according to him
So rough i am
my friend reports
So scared i am, deep inside
None do know

My happiness not one
I believe to have
My friendships
to one true guy
The only one i see eye to eye
My love
nonexistent, all bone dry

I fight for my country
I fight for fame
I fight for freedom
for a brighter day

I do no fear
much i say
Yet mistake my words
I do a lot

Many a blunder i made in life
To come was one i do not fear to say
Another, tragic
cost a life

A life i never thought to fade
A life i would be willing to completely trade
A life of my one true friend

I fight for my country
I fight for fame
I fight for freedom
for a brighter day

I wrote a letter
One that no one should write
A letter to my Best Friends wife
A letter i would never forget

I joined the army
in truth, for fun
I may leave in a coffin or worse
The thought of death looms over me like a cloud

I did many things wrong in life
Yet there is still time
Time to put things right

I fight for my country
I fight for fame
I fight for freedom
for a brighter day

My wife, i write
to you now
I fear, with my last breath
I know i will not live long
So read my words
and keep them as you would gold

I only and truly loved one
I only and truthfully loved you till i was undone
True may it be our love gone
But i write to you now
with my last moments i fear

I was stupid and i know that
i was dumb
you have the right to say
i as crazy
be that some of many

Sorry for everything
i am
Sorry I bailed
as i did
the quick mans way out
some may say

I apologize with my whole heart
And so i write to remove all pangs
For fear for you i do
Every morning, fear
Night too

I guess what i want to say is
If short and straight you want
I know i love you
And believe
We still might have a chance....

To you young soldier i award thee
A medal and honors of bravery
Yet grieve you must
and thus shall
Your wife
Killed in an air raid

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
