Confessions Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

Confessions

The days only when my young
Heart was weak and feeble
And all my limbs were strong
With an overflowing youth,
The remembrance of the past
Years and years ago
I prayed for your heart's embrace
Ending in a marriage and kids...

Amidst my tears and pleadings
You smiled determinedly
And finally came out with the big secret
Most enjoyable to you girls then,
And said sadly that you have devoted
Your heart for one and your fear of
Such gross ingratitude.

I dumped every fortune and future
In that Lonely city and gone for ever...

Today miraculously we met
At one other corner of present world
And you smiled the same
Radiant smile and I was
Perplexed and annoyed again
Within my aged and frozen heart,
When you said voluntarily
And casually that you did marry
Another not that then devoted one.

I crushed my chest and did take
Out my bleeding, stupid heart and
Questioned for the truth, seeking
Only the truth and nothing but the truth!

What I actually wanted in her
In that radiant youth of mine?

I remember my continuance hatred
For your invincible feminine beauty,
My endless fear before your inviting eyes,
How, I craved for solving the invisible secrets
Of love hidden in your physical mystifications...

Could there have been a chance of
Solving my real problem by
Negotiating the reality
And play a fair game of
Giving and taking with her?

No, not at all, only unfair games
Can win such situations mingled
Always with cruel but little hypocrisies.

It is the truthful tragedy for another
Million years of human love making!

The narrative involving a love affair gone awry has been captured so beautifully. Thanks. And you smiled the same / Radiant smile and I was / Perplexed and annoyed again
