'Common Sense Is Dead' Poem by Trade Martin

'Common Sense Is Dead'

It’s been a well known fact for a long, long, time….,
‘Just couldn’t survive in the world today….,
‘Tried to hold on, then gave up and faded away….,
At one point it was strong…, but soon became scarce…,
Now well forgotten, and its day has passed…,
Even the wisest of men shamefully put it to bed…,
Please accept my sympathy….,
Common Sense Is Dead
The more I remember…, the sadder I get….,
Common Sense Is Dead….,
Gone, caput, booked, bought the farm…,
Just sank to the bottom…, like an old piece of lead…,
Like a Bad Day At Black Rock***
I beg you don’t forget…,
Common Sense Is Dead….,
Yes, that’s what I said….,
Common Sense Is Dead.

.2004.
