Common Sense Poem by Carolyn June

Common Sense

Common sense cannot be taught
Not begged, borrowed, or brought
Like the human heart it needs exercise
Without precious air, it eventually dies

Be careful while crossing the street
Dodging fast cars is a risky feat
Good judgment is what you lack
Wrong choices you can't take back

Ignoring the obvious every time
Choosing ridiculous over sublime
When it speaks, take time to listen
Inner voice called female intuition

Before you jump, consider the leap
Before diving in, measure how deep
Don't live life in a constant free fall
Try common sense once and for all

No need to enroll in formal college
To learn about common knowledge
It's a thing that one can never teach
Begin to practice what others preach
