Comfortable Poem by Doom & Gloom

Comfortable

Rating: 3.4

Look at us now in the opulent West
Fuel for a system all should detest
Watch as we lie in luxuries lap
Our belly's are full, our water on tap
Diseases are treated, our people are strong
Our morals are right, our enemies wrong
We act high and mighty, assume we are wise
We filter the truth from masses of lies.
Civilized minds at the top of the heap
Or are we confined and as mindless as sheep
Look at our brothers and sisters abroad
They are people like us, no barbarian hoard
How little they own, how much they lack
Their water bad, their food turned black
Illness is rife, the people are scared
Would this be the case if we really cared
Appeasing our conscience with token remorse
When given the chance we do nothing of course
The crosses we bear don't come in one size
The imbalance of weight shall be our demise
Civilized minds would not justify
Extending our lives while so many die

I'm really impressed by the more political pieces you write: a moral poet.

This poem touched me very much. We do walk around with our heads in the clouds and ingore the suffering around us. Very well written peice of poetry. Pam

This is the right attitude. Less us over them, more all of us!
