Closer To The Darkness Poem by David Harris

Closer To The Darkness

Sometimes we stand close to abyss
wondering why we are so ridiculed
when we have done nothing wrong.
We keep asking the question why?
No answer reveals itself,
just the question to torment us.
It begins to drag us down
to the edge of the abyss
and still no answer prevails.
We are like a leaf tossed in the wind
never landing forever floating
on every gust that comes along
as we step closer to the darkness
that might give us closure.
A light descends upon us
revealing all the good we have ever done
which outweighs any wrongs we may thought
that we have done to others.
It reveals all the joy have brought to others.
We are finally free of guilt
and the question we could not answer.
Free to return to the life
before the ridicules began.
