Clockwork Poem by renato mascardo

Clockwork

it reaches out in the beginning
before it recedes
this added dimension that intrudes
for the story grips
the watcher’s intellect/ strums
the strings of one’s heart
complication upon complication
cogwheels toothed and engaged
touching each other wheeling self
and other in this universe
of function in this cosmos of purpose
a broken mechanical waiting
for the healing touch/ a bittered old man
waiting to remember his past
for him meet his future
brought together once more by
two friends young and untouched
by the fickleness of age
faith and affection still simplified
each wheel in its proper place
rotating transmitting moving
complication upon complication
of interwinding microcosmic lives
in this macrocosmic clock//
