Civil War Poem by Lawanya Wijesekara

Civil War

Beyond the borders
of right and wrong
Where the sun rises and sets
On a barren land
Neither yours,
nor mine....

I've forgotten
and forgiven
the fact that
my kin died
on the hand
of yours

You've forgotten
and forgiven
the fact that
mine
massacred
yours...

Oh, the past...
burnt...
ashes to dust
Nurtures the
land barren
with lust..

But, we must burn....
Again through ashes
Liven the hatred.
for the world,
to rejoice
Over our amnestied
past.......
