Civil Unrest. Poem by Maria Shaw

Civil Unrest.

Rating: 5.0

Governments shake bloodied hands
keeping the people under command
the more they protest the worse it gets
and then they call it civil unrest.

Pretending we're at war
they make plans to ensure their profits soar
killing off the masses
with chemicals and gases.

Ignorants applaud
as leaders make plans to invade land and oil
waving flags in undignified glory
cheering as history repeats the same story.

Taxes invested in death and destruction
as we work like slaves to pay our way
struggling to survive
as inflation soars through the sky.

Pensions are dangled like a carrot before us
as dreams of retirement get further from reach
forced to work 'till we die
as our youth survive on the poverty line.

Thanks so much for your heartfelt review Mark. It's sadly very true.

So, so, true, well written, all the western world gov.s are now owned and run by the corporate sector and profit is king at any cost, even human lives.
