City Of Dreams Poem by Anupa Subramanian

City Of Dreams

Rating: 2.5

When I sit back and think what is it here that I miss...
Amidst a developed city that is surely a bliss.
My thoughts bounced back to that beautiful place...
Where me like millions took up pace.
The city that rocketed my dreams even with the humblest background..
Just like the shanties near the skyscraper ground..
How can I not miss this city………
Where revolutions take place in hundred square feet rooms..
It produces exemplary policeman and also goons..
Where pigeons safeguard the city heritage..
Where every cuisine has its signature taste.
The humble vada pav scores over the burger..
And tastes its best with the roadside vendor..
Where neighbours bawl over a bucket of water..
and the same greet each other with holi colour..
With the screech of the train does the people warm up der day..
It is there home no matter where they stay..

The narrow gallis and the wider roads..
The mourning days and the party zones.
The overflowing trains and the crowded stations..
The traffic jams and the pothole invasions.
The dabbawalas and their lunch boxes
The page 3 glamour and strings of hoaxes,
The sea facing flats and the humble chawls,
The stray dogs and Their loud growls.
I MISS THEM ALL…
A day, Thousands rest and millions start to breath…
But this city never ever seems to sleep..

Which city have you written about? Mumbai?

Nice thoughts, however, too much of prose. This could be easily passed of as an essay.
