Ciro's Birthday Poem by Alyssa Rieper

Ciro's Birthday

On a tree, a lazy little squirrel
A nut he has cherished as a pearl
He holds it closely to his heart
Nothing at all can tear them apart
Except a hippo, who chomps him down
Trapped in the stomach, the squirrel frowns
He pitches a tent, just for the night
And, of his nut, he takes the first bite
Just then, music sounds out
In the stomach a party’s about
Squirrels sing, dance, and eat nuts
And the hippo explodes, no if, ands, or buts!
The squirrels are free to party away
Just because it’s Ciro’s birthday
