Circus Trick Poem by Khumo Mhlanga

Circus Trick

Rating: 3.5

I wanted to be her -
She was living my dream
The life you promised me...the love that was mine

How long was the game meant to last?
Did I perform to plan?
Was it worth it?
No bliss in ignorance -
Only a grave for innocents
You dug mine.
And I fell into it repeatedly...
Each time the faces in our world asked me about your circus trick -
The best one yet
Pulled a fortnight after
A fragile heart had your love excussed from it...
But it 'wasn't me, it was you' - so read the eviction notice.

Darkness flowing through my veins
Your serrated blade plunged deep into my heart
Eye for an eye...
Didn't fill my perforated soul
Only left me blind.

I need an exorcism.
