Christmas Lament Poem by Ray Lucero

Christmas Lament

Rating: 5.0

How sad is he this Winters day
Especially during Christmas season
His soul yearns for her so far away
Lord, there must be good reason

To share with her a Christmas tree,
To hike Sandia mountain foothills
How happy aching hearts could be
For him there'd be no greater thrill

For now a few lines must suffice
Sending written words to and fro
Alas, for them no wedding rice
Nor nuptials to cultivate and grow

He prays a time shall come when hearts unite
When twin souls once more take upward flight

That last line, 'When two souls once more take upward flight, ' is beautiful, but ever so sad. Such longing expressed in so few words.
