Choice Or Convenience Poem by Imelda Ortega Suzara

Choice Or Convenience

Rating: 4.8

'Henry, is it not time you should propose? '
'Propose what? ' He gulped a sweet chocolate.
'Marriage of course! ' Intrigued, he struck a pose.
'What? For a bachelor, it is too late! '
Lise stared. 'Really? Surely we have options,
The future...' 'Together? What ever for? '
'A marriage for practical solutions:
To own property, raise children before...
'You get pregnant? If we have a marriage,
I literally will lose...' 'Your freedom?
If we move in together, the outrage
Of family, neighbours...' 'That is a dumb
Idea! We should tie the knot by choice.
Invite them to our wedding to rejoice! '

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Note: about marriage by choice or convenience in an amusing argument between a couple, a bachelor and his girlfriend, where in a roundabout way he ends up proposing/agreeing to marry her; another telepathic collaboration

I like the uniqueness of the piece, well articulated and written with insight to drive home the poet's conviction. A nice piece indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
