Children & Teenagers Still Need To Pray Poem by Luke Easter

Children & Teenagers Still Need To Pray

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

This is a poem I used to say,
And I never missed a day,
However, somewhere along the way,
This verse no longer did I pray.

Children and teens die at an early age,
Sniffing glue is all the rage,
Choking is another way to get a high,
Why are we surprised when so many die?

Underage drinking and cigarettes,
Here is another sure Las Vegas bet,
As they get older we’ll soon forget,
Why society now considers them a threat.

Health care facilities are making mega bucks,
Treating so many who are down on their luck,
Yet way too often this therapy fails,
Many will still die or end up in jail.

Parents who have drinking parties,
For their children at home,
Well isn’t that better than,
Having them get drunk and sick alone?

This way they won’t have,
To get behind the wheel,
Not destroying another life,
Sick not sad they will not feel.

Hurry honey we have to get to the hospital,
It’s dark are you sure you know the way?
Call & see if any other parents need a ride,
No not them, their kid died,

I couldn’t look them in the face,
I just wouldn’t know what to say.
Well yeah, we could at least ring them up,
For a moment we did stop to pray.

Not just in America but around the world,
This scenario is played out every day,
Wouldn’t be easier to tell your boy & girl,
Before bed tonight remember we have to pray.
