Children Are Your Signatures Poem by Emmanuel Arunee Mwanza

Children Are Your Signatures

men, women
let's talk
let's settle down
in court you and him
in court you and her
let's learn
you about him
him about you
and we as people
about us
about humbleness, equality, love

Let's serve one another
let's work for the betterment of our lives
let's build lasting relationships
let's build stronger relationships
from which our children will learn

watch and learn little children
from the people we call
father
from the people we call
mother
the people who owe us a future
the people who look up to us for the future
the future; a new beginning for us
the new earthly beings just settling in
the future;
a time to replicate the parent's past
maybe even do better

so,
little children;
let's settle down and talk
talk to them
and they talk to us
learn from them
and they will bestow greatness in us
great wisdom
great knowledge
and they will show us a life
and don't forget the part that you listen to them
the part that you honour them
the part that you understand them
even when you feel grown up
they are the men and women
who brought us into this world
so look up to them
but...
with caution

parents;
treat each other fairly
respectfully
lovingly
with tender touches
romantic stories being shared among you
as the children watch
that becomes sweet tales in the future
remember they are your signatures,
children are your signatures
the blueprints of who you are
the seal that you were in this world when you die
and their lives
the children's lives are like a letter
carrying any sort of a message
written in any handwriting
with any kind of font
with various colours
written by both big and small hands
written by pens.pencils, markers anything
and some blood
it all depends with how you care for them,
if you leave them unsigned
you surely should know
that you have done little
or
nothing at all
if they do good or bad
if they are successful or not
either way
the letter will always
carry your signatures
the letter will always point to you
that
yours faithfully,
(YOUR NAME)
