Childhood Memories Poem by Mariela Contreras

Childhood Memories

I could feel the warm sticky grass after a days play
Smelling the citrus air; the same air that accompanied
A nice breeze,
The same breeze that kissed my face

Laying down with sibling and friends
Watching the clouds pass by,

Lying under the hot sun
The same sun that allowed the sweat to linger down our bodies
A sticky residue on our faces and our fingers from an earlier popsicle
Cooling and cleaning off on the trampoline with a hose
As the cold water drenched our clothes
A taste of warmth fell deeply into us
A special feeling

Jumping, screaming, laughter
Most of all happiness is what we enjoyed

Simplicity

The simple moments were the ones that kept summer alive
Not having to deal with school
Not being able to feel stressed

“Okay lets play a game to see who can last on the tramp! ”

Once again under the hot sun
Ready to be dried once more
Childhood summers were the best time of all

When the sun tortured our skin and eyes
In the house we would play
Enjoying fun games
Games that we enjoyed together.

Riding our bikes down Sunny lane
Reaching a certain boundary and then returning home

It didn’t matter that we had a boundary
We rode our bikes because we felt the breeze of freedom,
It was the smell of playful happiness

Delight

Summers seemed as if they never ended

When they did it, it was unbelievable

Time well spent

Memories
Enjoyment

Childhood summers were so calm,
A sudden cry would cause chaos

Small things and large made those summers the best of all

June
July
August

Are truly memorable

Childhood summers
Is a remarkable event
