Child Poem by Glenn Ford

Child

Marbles in the school yard, kiss chase and skinned knees
Carefree times of running and shouting crying and pouting
Best friends and bullies and climbing large trees

When days seemed like weeks and months like years
And the sun shone daily on discoveries new
Sandals and short trousers laughter and tears
Abandonment, innocence and worries so few

Imagining shapes from fluffy white clouds
Jumping in puddles and splashing, laughing and dashing
Building a tree house, no adults allowed!

Playing conkers, winning ten in a row
Walking mud over mum's shiny new floor
Planting apple pips in egg cartons and watching them grow
The days of a child, precious, worderous and more.
