Chess Poem by Benjamin Paa Willie

Chess

Rating: 4.0

From above the stiff shoulders
Of the hands doing the sacrifices
Keenly, marveling, l looked
Too silly it seemed to me
The sacrifices being made
Saving a pawn; a mere pawn
At the expense of a bishop
I feared, still I do, for such mighty
Until I realized the queen too
Like the opponent's wasn't
But unlike all other pawns
This pawn has earned its place
Through walls to the other side
Saving it now was not an option
He'd walked through impregnable walls
He has become she - the most powerful
