Cheetah And Cougar

CHEETAH

They say the cheetah only mates
with strangers, not with friends,
and only has platonic dates
with ones it knows. Some gents
I know are very much like cheetahs,
with preference for whores;
though some may be less picky eaters
they all are carnivores
and favor flesh of females raw
when it's available,
and open as a taxi door,
perhaps as hailable.
Am I a cheetah? Do not ask,
but stay and be beguiled;
I won't take off my cheetah mask
unless you drive me wild,
but if by chance you are a cougar,
and I’m too old for you,
I’ll try to love you with my Lugar,
in cheetah shoots for you.

Donald Rayfield's biography of Chekhov, 'Anton Chekhov: A Life' was reviewed in the Wall Street Journal by Stefan Kanfer. Kanfer writes: 'Zoologists might compare Chekhov's sexuality with the cheetah, which can only mate with a stranger. Not aroused by women whom he liked (and worse, not liking women who aroused him) , Chekhov was troubled, until he was too ill to be aroused at all.'
