Chasing Happiness Poem by Linda Engwall

Chasing Happiness

Rating: 4.8

Conventional wisdom tells you
If you do all the right things
Following the rules
It should be yours to have

Soon as you think you understand what it is
In a blink of an eye
Something happens in your day
To make it disappear
Leaving you to wonder
how did that happen again

You cant touch it
You cant hold onto it tight enough
Like a bubble that explodes into air when you try

Is it a feeling
Not to measured by any other standard
Then your own

Running around chasing after it
As if you can
it laughs at you
alluding you if you try

Finally understanding you can never find it
outside of yourself or in others

So remain open to Silence
Be Grateful
Respectful
Hopeful
Joyful
Use laughter to lighten your load
And you will truly be blessed with happiness
deep down In your soul
