Chain-Link Poem by Kathlyn Grace

Chain-Link

The chain-link fence
it rattles
it rattles as the lies crawl over
and under
one foot per notch
one tear per eye

The chain-link fence
it rattles
it rattles as the children climb
up higher and higher
begging to touch just an inch of sky
one child per notch
one scrap per child

The chain-link fence
it rattles
it rattles as the birds land
they land so gracefully
so delicatly
the birds they land on the chain-link fence
the fence baring lying children
who climbed too high
