Casting Off Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Casting Off

We cast off bow and stern lines
before dawn-
the ship edged out into the channel
alongside a stone breakwater-

Tinkling brass bells on buoys marked
our passage toward deep waters-

We stood by our stations
gazing toward the horizon-

Another day about to dawn
in the life of a seafarer!
