Capriccio Brillante Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Capriccio Brillante

Rating: 5.0

(dedicated to Ms. Maria João Pires, a great pianist)

threatening octave
aggressive
daunting
runs low

quick treble figures
transform themselves
having reached presto
mysterious yet fully unified

geyser cones
lavender fields
so loved by anglers
thousands of birds nest

immense heritage
immortal evergreens
winderoded diamonds
fossilised lava columns

memorable outings on cloudy days
innumerable sights in villages
ornate wrought iron gates
wind-torn basalt rocks

(inspired by Constança Araújo's works)

Stunning instrumental lexicon, resplendent imagework, and the employment of crisp, short cropt stanzaec structure affords this piece mellifluous movement as well as a pleasing read.....Solid Penning. F j R 2009
