Camperdown John Poem by Francis Duggan

Camperdown John

He feels happy on the coast of southern Gippsland
Five hours at least by car from his Hometown
A five minutes walk from the wide beach at Inverloch
John won't be hurrying back to Camperdown.

He goes surfing at the surf beach in Cape Paterson
At the weekends if the surf waves are rolling high
Though raised in an inland country town he much prefers the coast line
And the coastal sort of life style he enjoy.

With a devoted partner and a young son and young daughter
He feels as happy as he could wish to be
In Inverloch he has found his utopia
A three bedroom weather board home near the sea.

Camperdown John is the nickname he is known by
On his next birthday he will be thirty two
He left his old Hometown when he was nineteen
And to Inverloch his travels led him to.

He enjoys a few beers with his mates at the local
And his hobbies surfing, cricket and football,
A fan of Collingwood the famous Magpie's
And Aussie Rules his favourite game of all.

He is happy on the coast of southern Gippsland
So many miles away from his Hometown
And in Inverloch he has found his utopia
And he won't be hurrying back to Camperdown
