Call Me Not A Poet Poem by Sathya Narayana

Call Me Not A Poet

Rating: 4.6

Call me not A poet
It’s a shame to Shelly and Scott
A disgrace to Wordsworth and Frost
And heart-broken will be Homer and Tagore

Don’t embarrass those all time greats
Now sitting in the Lord’s court
Crooning their best ever cantos
In elegance, ex tempore

But I have an earnest hope
One day, one of those of my idols
Will sure by an accidental glimpse, from heavens
Catch me, standing on this Earth
With my hands stretched out
Trying frantic, to touch at least one star
In the vast poetic yonder
And make an affectionate chortle
Encouraging my puerile endeavor
It’s all! Enough for me to set on
And stretch out my trifle poetic effort

Sathya……

You enjoy writing poetry. That should be enough, that, and communicating with other poets. Fame will have to take care of itself.

I like this a lot. It may not have rhyme and rhythm, which many members prefer, but it has much sincerity, and true poetic thought.

very beautiful piece...touching...full of humility.... maybe you are not a poet for you..but there's a poet inside you.....your heart... ...'to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past' The poet's voice need not merely the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.'-from the words of U.S. Novelist William Faulkner I'm not a poet too...but i love poetry because it's just within me... but i have a love on making my feelings and insights into something that pleases my heart.... trying to crawl whenever i tend to ignore....write something when there's an impulse... 10+++ for this thoughts' provoking piece...

Candid and humble! under the stars a poet in you is reviving... Certainly you are none the less when you accept you are no one. A good thought from a open minded person.
