Caledonia's Muse - Poem by Paddy Scott Hogg

Caledonia's Muse -

Rating: 2.7

My nation’s spirit is my Queen
She rules majestic, evergreen
Caledonia’s voice for whom I sing
Immortal muse, my verses bring!

Oft at the dawn I’d pensive stray
To while some laden cares away
Far, far from the city throng
I’d hear your voice in votive song

Some lilting air of ethereal grace
Soft and gentle from a distant place
Like perfume carried on the breeze
Hypnotic, dancing thru the trees

I almost feel and touch your form
A ghostly spirit before the storm
You deck with flowers the sultry wild
You dream of a nation reconciled:

Exiled from their hearts and mind
You call to them who walk behind
Blind they sleepwalk through the snows
Unseen, your tears are soft repose

Your bard’s great work we celebrate
Grey silver backs inebriate:
The work of Burns shall be done
When Caledonia's FREEDOM's won.

Three hundred years in slumber deep
The SOUL of FREEDOM no more shall sleep
Tear the chains of bondage loose
Arise Great Spirit, Caledonia’s MUSE!
