Cage Three Poem by Alec Witthohn

Cage Three

Come down from the mountain
She grinned like ice, grilling me
Coming down slowly alive

Hold my eyes, drink the pines
Coming down in singular lines
Eating the world, and the word
Eating the hate, and the nerve

Up the mountain,
Coming down slowly
Choking on the white dress

Come down from the mountain
She grinned like ice, grilling me
Coming down slowly alive
