Bye Bye Rio Poem by jer holland

Bye Bye Rio

Rating: 5.0

It started way back on the 12th June
England would fail and come home too soon
Gerrard and Roy with no wind in their sails
But at least we did better than Scotland, Ireland and Wales
The Algerians surprised and put up a fight
Suarez was on form but against Columbia lacked bite
Ghana looked good but went out in a flash
Would have gone sooner but for a suitcase of cash
Costa Rica did well but their end was Krul
Messi and co looking favourites to rule
Brazil felt the pressure and conceded seven
The Germans efficient with football from heaven
The Dutch entertained but failed to survive
Robben so good but no need to dive
The final was tight after 90 minutes nil nil
Gotze was sharp and went for the kill
The Germans were a problem Messi failed to fix
He's no Maradona Mexico 86
In four years time who will reign
Pressure will mount on a scouser called Wayne
Russia will host and Moscow erupt
The greatest show on earth and slightly corrupt
So bye bye Rio its been emotional but fun
For England alas another job not done
Whilst for us the future appears quite bleak
From Rio at least its Vorsprung durch Technik
