But You I Admire Poem by Francis Duggan

But You I Admire

If you are the one others don't wish to know
And any success in your life you don't have for to show
Why worry about it accept who you are
The one on a low income who can't afford a car.

Though all of the knowledge we acquire with us does not stay
We learn a little from life every day
As long as our gift of memory with us does remain
From living new insights from life we do gain.

And since most people look at success differently
The one you see as successful may not be so to me
In your compassion and kindness in you I can see
A successful person though with that many may not agree.

The wealthy and famous many celebrate
But I never look up to such people as great
But you I admire you work hard for small pay
And to help others out you go out of your way.

The unsung hero of your side of the town
You don't live your life for honour and renown
And you are successful despite what some say
You work hard and do your good deed every day.
