But Do Not Tell Me I Should Quit Poem by Francis Duggan

But Do Not Tell Me I Should Quit

I'll never be a prince of verse just your average man of rhyme
Addicted to the penning of doggerel though that is not a crime
In a World of many fine poets mine is an obscure name
And penning stuff for such as i is a hungry belly game
And what care i if I'm dismissed as one not good enough
If my lines seem uneven and my rhymes seem a bit rough
But i hang in there even though i find the going quite tough
And i will not give writing away for i like penning stuff
And no shortage of material for one to write about
There's Nature, war and people and there's climate change and drought
If I'm not seen to make the grade with me that's quite okay
But do not tell me i should quit and give writing away
You will not find a more addictive human being than i
And i will go on penning stuff until the day i die.
