Burning Rose Poem by jael mboga

Burning Rose

Beautiful,
Aren't they?
But gentle,
Like the breeze that makes them what they are.

So tender,
Yet oozes so much strength.
The softness of the petal,
Not getting in the way of its own beauty.

We all see your beauty,
But very few know the story behind you.

Few have knowledge of what dirt you had to push aside,
To bloom into what you are today.

They should know it was not easy.
Many times the sun burnt your skin.
Many days you survived,
To become the man you are today.

Like a burning rose
You defied odds to come out victorious,
Many times your own blood and sweat,
Being the only life line you had.

Treading paths feared by many,
But believing in your course.

I hope I play my part like you want me to,
Expect me to,
Do I water you enough?
Hold you close when the wind is too strong?
The tide too high?

When faced by strong winds,
The same arm that wipes your brow,
Is the same that holds your hand.

When faced by difficulty,
And the next step proves too hard to take,
I will be the flower that gives you strength to carry on

If I have to face the winds with you,
That I shall,
And do more,
If it is all that will keep you going.

There is more to human beings,
Than surrounding ourselves with our very own battles and victories.

Someone else's victory brings greater joy,
If we are part of it.

Help others get to their destination,
Your journey will be shorter,
And more satisfying.

Find joy in making others happy,
Not just your friends,
But foes equally.

Life,
Like a garden of flowers,
Harbours roses and weeds, too

Thorns may be part of our rose stems,
If we are careful,
We are bound to be protected by them,
Rather than be hurt.

Don't be fearful.
It will darken your heart,
Making it hard to experience your life to the fullest.

I chose the path I take,
I chose the journey I take,
Right next to you,
In the storm,
The sun,
Or the wind,
Every step,
Every breath,
Worth taking.

Should it be my last,
Your flower will be the first on my casket,
Though placed in sorrow,
It will make me a happy flower-owner,
On my next journey

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem is about people, who go through life's hardships but are ready to take another step. The only source of strength they have is another person, who lets their partner's dreams be their own too. Their selflessness, a source of strength to the traveller.
