Burning Light Poem by Anand Rai

Burning Light

A small step towards infinity,
I walk a step closer to it living in vanity,
Shadowed in endless mysteries yet to be shown,
I glide through those already known

A minute or two, a year and more
The road widens and bolts every door
A step more and a light glows
Yet each day ends getting none too close

Gods and demons, dark and shine
Shall stop my path for none be so fine
Yet if only I could figure a way to look
The riddles would answer from the book

As my feet carries me to the untraveled road
My back aches with the colossal load
I try and walk a little farther
All in vain as the questions smother

Time and the need of an immortal being
Both screaming for me to stop leading
Inevitability of old age to arrive a day too soon
And the inability of a human over come me with the last moon

It is not possible to continue a move ahead
So as I wait the fog to engulf me in my bed
I lit my last candle to burn in its eternal glow
That one day someone like me may glide upon and reach a step too close.
