Budgie Budget Poem by C Richard Miles

Budgie Budget

My budgie's bust my budget:
I can hardly pay his bill
For what he needs in sunflower seeds
And cuttlefish bones and Trill.

If only I could train him
And send him out to work,
Perhaps he'd seek to keep himself
And not deem his perch a perk.

But he's such a pudgy budgie,
Such an idle, fluffy lump,
I can't seem to budge my budgie
Though perhaps I can make him jump:

For I'll cut my budgie's budget
And give him un-milled grain
So he'll have to go and millet
To feed himself again.

And then my grumpy budgie
Might look me in the eye
And tell he'll sing for his supper
Before the feathers fly.
