Brian Boru Poem by Francis Duggan

Brian Boru

Rating: 0.5

A legend beyond his lifetime and his fame known far and wide
He led his men in battle and in battle he died
All contemporary war kings, prime ministers and presidents a
lesson here for you
If you are really leaders you would lead like Brian Boru.

You would lead your men into battle as Brian Boru used to do
But no instead you leave young men to fight and die for you
To declare war is easy but to fight is another thing
And Brian led his men to war when he was an aged king.

In the battle of Clontarf in 1014 in victory he played his part
But he died in his glorious hour from a sword wound to his heart
The bards still write about him and the balladeers still sing
Of the last high king of Ireland who died as a true king.

This is the era of modern warfare when men dropp bombs from the sky
And the so called leaders who declare war the good life enjoy
You won't find any like Brian Boru in the World of today
To fight with their troops in battle and by example lead the way.

You leaders who declare war on other Nations an example here for you
From the life and death of the warrior king the dauntless Brian Boru
He led his men into battle and in battle he died
Whilst you send young men to die for you and you take all of the pride.
