Bri's Volunteer Work At Library …. [what Title Says; True; Personal; Medium Length] Poem by Bri Edwards

Bri's Volunteer Work At Library …. [what Title Says; True; Personal; Medium Length]

Each Wednesday I go to the library (almost without fail) .
I go not to use the computers, …..nor for a book sale.
I go before it opens to the public, for two or three hours.
I'm let in through the front door, which is bordered by flowers.

And what do I do there? I help however I can.
I use antiseptic wipes to make the computer area "spick-and-span'.
That takes about twenty minutes or perhaps thirty.
They may have fewer "germs" then, but they rarely LOOK dirty.

I raise the blinds on some windows near a reading space.
I gather newly-delivered newspapers and put them in their place.
I hunt down books, CDs, and DVDs which patrons have …..asked for.
I've even, once or twice, vacuumed part of …..the carpeted floor.

Once I checked online to see prices asked for certain used books …….
so when donated books were sold to the public, "we" wouldn‘t look like crooks.

Other duties have been: straightening items on shelves;
alphabetizing the DVDs so patrons can find one themselves;
updating library and community notices on a large notice board;
"rolling coins" and exchanging for bills at a bank; it's not wise to hoard …….
excess change;
unloading plastic bins of books etc. sent from a larger library;
putting toilet paper in the men's bathroom (just once):
boxing less-desirable donated books to be given to a thrift shop;
taking a package to the nearby post office to mail it out.
[etcetera, etc.]

Did you notice how the last few lines were ‘different', i.e. did not rhyme?
Well, if volunteers did not give freely of their time ….
"my library" would be ‘different' too. How? Want to GUESS? ……
Answer: The employees would be overworked and ……the place might be a MESS! !
