Breaking The Shackles Poem by Demetrius JonesDixon

Breaking The Shackles

They want you to bend.
They want you to blend.

Being real and true is shunned.
It leaks over the news, boy am I stunned.

Kids killing themselves for the crowd, literally and figuratively.
After looking at different views, I stood and vowed, quite diligently.

I promised to never break.
I promised to never be fake.

At one point I donned the white coat.
Then one day I received a mental note.

Being the same as everyone else, is the same as being blind.
So I took some years to develop my mind.

See, I began to understand.
That even if there's no support, I must be my own fan.

And I've stop putting myself down.
And with enough time I'll soon rock the crown.
