Breaking Myself Free - Poem by Socheata Mok

There's a picture frame
And all I want to do is step out of it
Overcome the boundaries I've feared
To move on, get out of the past

Only if the shadows could stop holding me back
Maybe then I would've succeed
I wished I could stop thinking in the dark
Maybe then I could move a few feet

From the ground where I stood, I'm immobile
Surrounded by demons calling on the other side
They knew I was alone, waiting
And when I lost faith, I lose hope

So I continue to pray that this day would come
Where someone would reach out a hand
Give me strength when I'm on my knees
Free me with the energy to believe

Let me know I'm wanted where I can belong
In a place I can just continue to be me
Give me this chance, let me know you're there
Only this can I break myself free

Thank you for commenting and for your generosity. I kindly appreciate it. :) This poem is inspired by my past. At some point in life, I let my own depression get the best of me and I couldn't move on while I felt that the others were leaving me behind. Everything didn't feel right. It was breaking me apart and I began to fear the sudden changes around me, as well as my own life. However, slowly over time, I learnt to accept change. I began to learn how to let go and appreciate more of life. I also wrote another poem, The Challenge of Life, just to constantly remind myself of the important points I've learnt so far and just to keep others including myself that they need to stay motivated and believe in hope
