Boo! Poem by Kathleen Reguindin

Boo!

In pitch-black night, they huddle.
What seemed to be a good idea that morning now seems suicidal.
Hike through the trails, dangerously close to the cliffs
To look for a ghostly walker.

The guys feign bravery and nonchalance
They continue on, through the dark trails they advance
Close together, flashlights in hands
All seemed in a trance.

Now that they are here, what is this presence they feel
An eerie misty form that makes them shiver
A cold wind blows, and hairs on their napes stand on end
The girls tremble.

Suddenly, the stillness of night is broken by a shrill cry
A movement, a shadow by the woods catch their eyes
A feathery creature, sound of wings flapping
Overhead, something shrieking.

Fear now replacing their pride and ego
They all turn around, out of the dark woods they run
Scared out of their wits, ghostly creatures giving chase
Back to their homes they race.
