Bone Flute Song Poem by Wayne Falconer

Bone Flute Song

Sound of bone flute did inspire.
Hinemoa and her lovers fiery desire.
Lake spirits dancing in starlight
invaded this maidens dreams at night.

Hinemoa heard bone flutes hypnotic notes
across spirit lake loves chant floats
echoing from where glittering moons shine.
The island crest waves do rhyme.

Bone flute whispered with the tide
come let our future memories reside
hear this grievous chant of love
whose spirit falls from above.

Hinemoa did abandon reason to fate
swam at midnight across the lake
guided by bone flute carved face
straight to her warrior lovers embrace.

Bone flute did echo in song
all their future summers long
across the great lovers lake
where memories chant will never forsake.

Myth of bone flute yearns to be heard.
Hinemoa's song I record in word.
To make haunting Maori myth speak.
Where young hearts run forever deep.
