Blessed By A Curse Poem by Dave Dafes

Blessed By A Curse

Out of gross darkness sprang forth the light,
At dawn fades the night,
My blindness has birth a great sight,
That sees into future heights,
My limits has been lifted,
As my boundaries broke,

I chose to tread a different path,
Never to remain a victim of chance,
My weakness become my greatest strength,
As I strive to turn my curse, a blessing be
That which vowed me to impede
Has become my launching pad,

How else could I
Run a race without my limbs?
How else could I
Fight life's battles without a sword?
I was born disadvantaged, wired to fail
A broken bird with broken wings,

An inferior bequest that nature bestowed,
My enemy within my cells reside,
A blood disorder that cause my bones to ache
But the pains in my heart none could sedate,
For that of my joints they exceed
When rejected by most I was,

Forged by my struggles,
My strength from my weakness sprang,
My Will of steel exhausts life's every anvil,
As I refused to bow, even when bloodied,
When a brick wall I faced,
I turned not aside but dug a burrow instead

A bruise reed shaken by the wind,
Adored by all, I, who was once abhorred,
The stone the builder rejected has become
The cornerstone on which everyone lies,
Out of Nazareth the savior came,
Out of obscurity I've risen,
A man of many parts,

Despising none,
I'm all things to all men,
Fickle and frail, with a broken body,
Though of no physical attribute
But with my great mind,
I've conquered all hearts,

"A man's gift makes room for him, " they've said
"It sets him before great men"
But mine has been my challenges,
It has made a way for me,
Every closed door unlocked,
I've ran without limbs,
Flew with my broken wings,
Fought without sword,
Yet subdued all
I've been blessed by my curse.
