Black Shadows Poem by Darren Harris

Black Shadows

Rating: 5.0

In the graveyard I do walk,
With black shadows by my side,
Dead people walking next to me,
Acting as my guide,
As they guide me through the gravestones,
In a graveyard lit by the moon,
They keep me safe next to them,
Wrapped within their own cocoon,
They do not talk or whisper,
They just motion with their hands,
Follow us their saying,
Off to different lands,
Through the arch of the crematorium,
Through to the other side,
It stands there in the centre,
A perfect place to hide,
A big umbrella shaped willow tree,
Its flowers all in bloom,
As they pull the branches aside for me,
I walk into its room,
As I stand beneath its branches,
My eyes are opened wide,
I felt the warmth of the tree,
As it kept me safe inside,
The black shadows they sat next to me,
As I closed my eyes real tight,
They kept me safe in the graveyard,
They kept me safe all night,
Now the shadows, the tree and the graveyard,
Kept me warm, safe and dry,
No more arguing or fighting,
So no more tears to cry.
