Black Goat As Sent From The Pope Poem by Paul Fisher

Black Goat As Sent From The Pope

Will you take your knife, to my throat?
All my humble blood is gone
So carve me from this meat coat

Take it all away, leave me on the road
As I absorb this light from the dead sun
Will you take your knife to my throat?

Please take me from this sinking boat
All I know is a black dawn
So carve me from this meat coat

Is there anything left but dead hope?
As I take this life once lost but never won
Will you take your knife to my throat?

I could not make the dead again
Slave to the pawn
So carve me from this meat coat

I could not make the dead and I one
As I watched the dead sun
Won’t you take that knife, to my throat?
Carving me from this meat coat
