Bitter Pill Poem by Amitava Sur

Bitter Pill

Rating: 4.5

When you are old enough,
Your blood becomes cool
No sun shines, no stallion rides
Only a deep dark den.

Old age with a crippled brain
Wrinkled skin with a dull vision,
Is nothing but witnessing
The hell on earth being lived.

Mind still goes on thinking
So many things still remain to get them done.
But with a crippled life, unable to do
Old age is crawling to hell.

This bitter pill we all have to gulp
Before the death embraces us.
No sun shines, no stallion rides
Only a deep dark den.

Sunshine may be fine but stallion ride will be a nightmare. Mind thinks it can ride but body refuses to do so. Beautiful poem. Thank you.

This bitter pill we all have to gulp Before the death embraces us. No sun shines, no stallion rides Only a deep dark den. I see a note of pessimism in this poem. Yes, old age is perhaps one of the greatest burdens of life.

Beautiful poem.Very true said.. Old age do cripple us and we feel burden on ourselves itself.. If we think it as bitter pill, then it can never be sweet. One has to convert into sweet pill by making the life worthwhile...It's difficult but no choice left.. Loved the way you presented it.

Old age is something we all have to face eventually - it is easier for some than for others, and it has some compensations. Good write Amitava.

Such an honest approach to growing old, Amitava! You have explicitly spelled out what it is like at times. Still in old age we may have pleasant experiences if we only look for them, especially through nature. Totally understand your feelings, about growing old though. Would prefer not to ever age, if it were possible, but that is not the way of our lives is it? Thank you for this thought provoking poem, Amitava! Great write. Thank you, RoseAnn

Old age is truly menacing for some! It is a bitter pill all of us have to swallow..... But let us hope that it turns out to be not so hard as we imagine! Think of the toothless smile ever lingering on some wrinkled faces...... To some extent we can modify our fate! Beautiful poem Amitava!
