Billy Is Off To The Christmas Party Poem by Francis Duggan

Billy Is Off To The Christmas Party

With a dozen stubbies of beer Billy is off to the neighbour's party
For to celebrate the eve of Christmas day
Where they will have a sing song get drunk and be merry
Each to their own as some are known to say.

It will not be an evening of carol singing
For his mates not religious in any way
You do not see them in church on sunday mornings
And to any God they do not kneel to pray.

The party will go on till after midnight
They will keep the neighbours woke with their noisy cheer
When drunk they seem to lose their inhibitions
It really is amazing stuff the beer.

It will not be 'Silent Night' they will be singing
Around the edges they seem a bit rough
Christmas to them an excuse for a boozing session
And they are into far more bawdy stuff.

Billy is walking to the Christmas party
To the house of his neighbour his very good mate Roy
They will drink grog laugh and sing till after midnight
And his night out with his mates he will enjoy.
